AI Imagination, Inclusive World and

Creative Education

Professor Clement Valla, drawing on his teaching experience at the Rhode Island School of Design, noted that human - machine synergy is not only a new frontier in art and design education, but also reveals the creative tension between humans and machines.“The clash between carbon - based and silicon - based lives opens up a space worth exploring for art and design… It suggests that approaches such as machinic and material ecologies can offer a lens through which to examine technology as a tool.” He advocates for integrating core principles of computation into flexible curricula, using the human-machine interface as a bridge to explore the boundless possibilities where uncertainty and personalization coexist.

Professor Benjamin Stopher emphasized that the development of human - machine synergy can elevate creativity to a new dimension. Through working with computational technologies, humans can reshape the notion of authorship and enhance the value chain of the creative industries. By embracing inclusive practices, we can explore the future of technology and achieve a deep integration of human values with computational experiences.

"Since creativity and human expressiveness are key to technological development, we must foster creativity, and education must engage with the material realities of computation. For talents with creativity, it is essential to cultivate their ability to envision technological futures — and to equip them with a strong belief in what lies ahead."

Design Education and Research in

the Era of Rapid AI Development

Drawing on the development of the School of Design and Art at Hunan

University and the broader context of China’s industrial shift from “Made in

China” to “Created in China,” Professor Tan Hao analyzed transformation

strategies for design education in the face of rapid AI development. “What

is crucial is how, from a design perspective, we can contribute to the

sustainable development of humanity within the current technological

landscape — this includes impacts on human society, culture, and the

social sciences.” He advocated for problem - oriented design education

that treats AI both as a material and an object of design. Through in-depth

research and innovative practice, design can play a vital role in advancing

the sustainable development of society and culture.

Co - evolving with AI

与AI同行

As one of the co - founders of the Futurelab at Ars Electronica — the

world’s most renowned event that brings together art and science — Mr.

Horst Hortner shared his experiences in scientific exploration,

technological application, and artistic expression. He emphasized that

human-machine co - creation will go beyond dataset-driven art forms,

enabling the transformation of technological logic into artistic practices

infused with human intention and social meaning. This paves the way for

the deep integration of science, technology, and art.

"We humans advance through imitation, while machines evolve through

exploration. Science creates knowledge; technology creates possibilities;

but only art creates meaning."

In his speech, Professor Dong Shubing drew on his own research and

creative practice to highlight how human-machine co-creation—

integrating digital technologies with traditional art — can drive a leap

forward in artistic creation and its practical validation. He emphasized, “No

matter how advanced technology becomes — whether it’s artificial

intelligence or digital technology — we must still leave a legacy for future

generations. It cannot exist solely on screens or be stored only on hard

drives.” With this perspective, he advocated for artistic expression that

transcends temporal and spatial boundaries.

The Babel Machine: Driving the

Professor Guido Tattoni introduced his talk with practical cases from his

own research on human – machine synergy, demonstrating how machine

learning and voice morphing technologies can be used to explore the

continuity and evolution of dialects. He discussed the potential of artificial

intelligence in artistic creation, enabling dynamic expressions of cultural

heritage and diversity, while reflecting on the relationship between

technology and artistic authorship.“For scientists, they understand that

technology itself carries neither artistic intent nor creative purpose. Yet,

the use of existing AI technologies and resources has produced results

that far exceed expectations. So, who should be considered the true

author of these works?”

Professor Bogki Min pointed out that the co-evolution of humans and

artificial intelligence brings new possibilities for art and design, but also

calls for caution against self - reinforcing biases. He emphasized the need

to redefine creativity and the role of the artist for a healthy integration of

technology and culture. “Today, artists can step out of the role of creator

and focus instead on defining the overall aesthetic framework and

providing painting algorithms for AI. In this sense, the artist transforms

into the creator of AI artists—formulating the principles that guide AI's

artistic expression.”
